TumbleBooks from the Brookline Public Library

A new feature of the Brookline Public Library website is a link to ebooks for kids called "TumbleBooks". Using your library card number you can access many ebooks appropriate for children grades Pre K - 2.

It's very easy to use:

Go to brooklinelibrary.org
Click on the TumbleBooks icon
Enter your library card number
Choose a book to read!

This would be a great way to read some books this summer! The site also includes kid-friendly National Geographic videos about various non-fiction topics (weather, insects, biographies)

Summer Reading (part 2)

We have been promoting summer reading lately at Lawrence School! We know that continuing good free reading habits all summer long results in reading success in and out of the classroom. So each year the librarians of the district put on our thinking caps and develop reading lists for each of the K - 8 grades.

Students will be getting their packet of titles soon, but if you'd like a sneak peek, here's a link to the lists online: http://brooklinesummerreading.weebly.com/

We believe that these titles are really good suggestions, but students should read whatever interests them--magazines, newspaper articles, graphic novels, comic books, chapter books, fiction, nonfiction, picture books, the back of the cereal box, maps you're using on your road trip, guide books to the places you'll visit, etc. ANY reading will benefit them and will put them in great shape for the coming school year.

And, of course, reading can happen in many formats in 2014--ebooks, books on a Nook or a Kindle or an iPad, audiobooks, books read to yourself, and books read aloud by a family member all "count"!

The summer reading packet includes a space for a summer reading log where students can record all the reading they do this summer.

Visit the public library and our local bookstores for summer reading activities and for more ideas of what to read!
