Award season is here!
The American Library Association hands out the Caldecott and Newbery medals on January 27th this year. There is lots of speculation around which books will win these prestigious awards. In the library, students have been examining some possible Caldecott contenders (listed below) and are excited to learn if they have selected a winner.
Check these out in our library or at the public library!
Journey by Aaron Becker
Exclamation Mark! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
The Tree Lady by H. J. Hopkins
Papa's Mechanical Fish by Candace Fleming
Locomotive by Brian Floca (my personal favorite)
A Splash of Red: The Life and Art of Horace Pippin by Jennifer Bryant
On a Beam of Light: a Story of Albert Einstein by Jennifer Berne
Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown
Becoming Babe Ruth by Matt Tavares
Miss Maple's Seeds by Eliza Wheeler
Mr. Wuffles by David Wiesner
Xander's Panda Party by Linda S. Park
The Caldecott committee is, of course, considering many more titles than those I listed here! We are fortunate that so many terrific books are being published for children AND that Brookline continues to fund libraries so that we can have these great books in our collection! Thanks, too, to the Lawrence PTO who continues to provide additional funding for library books, materials, and author visits!
Stay tuned for the big announcements on January 27th!
